About Davening Times
Davening — the Yiddish term for Jewish prayer — follows a daily schedule tied to the sun's position. The three tefillos of Shacharis, Mincha, and Maariv correspond to the morning, afternoon, and evening, with specific halachic times governing when each can be davened.
Our davening times are calculated using the Hebcal astronomical library with NOAA solar data. We display times according to both the GRA (Vilna Gaon) and the Magen Avraham, the two primary opinions for calculating halachic hours.
Whether you're looking for the latest time for Krias Shema, when mincha gedolah begins, or when to start Maariv, our tool provides accurate halachic times for over 500 cities worldwide, updated daily.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the three daily davening times?
The three daily tefillos are Shacharis (morning), Mincha (afternoon), and Maariv (evening). Shacharis can be davened from netz (sunrise) until the end of the fourth halachic hour. Mincha begins at mincha gedolah (half hour after chatzos) and ends at shkiah. Maariv begins at tzais hakochavim (nightfall).
What is the latest time to daven Shacharis?
According to the GRA, Shacharis should be completed by the end of the fourth halachic hour after netz. According to the Magen Avraham, the deadline is earlier because halachic hours are calculated from alos hashachar (72 minutes before sunrise).
When can I start davening Mincha?
Mincha can be davened starting at mincha gedolah, which is half a halachic hour after chatzos (halachic midday). The preferred earliest time according to some opinions is mincha ketanah, 2.5 halachic hours before shkiah.
When does Maariv begin?
Maariv begins at tzais hakochavim (nightfall), when three stars are visible. This is calculated at 8.5 degrees below the horizon. Some communities allow davening Maariv from plag hamincha onwards.
