PURIM. Celebration of the miraculous salvation of the Jewish people from Haman's plot to annihilate every Jew in the Persian Empire. The four mitzvos of the day: reading the Megillah, sending food gifts to friends (mishloach manos), gifts to the poor (matanos la'evyonim), and the festive Purim meal (seudah). The events of Purim took place approximately 474 BCE during the reign of Achashverosh of Persia.
