Rav Menachem Ziemba

Rav Menachem Ziemba (1883-1943), Chief Rabbi of Warsaw, was killed in the Warsaw Ghetto during the uprising. He had ruled that armed resistance was a halachic obligation under the circumstances, providing the religious basis for the ghetto fighters' stand. He was one of the greatest Torah scholars of pre-war Poland.
