Rav Moshe ben Nachman, the Ramban (Nachmanides) (1194–1270), the towering Torah scholar, Kabbalist, philosopher, physician, and communal leader. He defended Judaism in the famous Barcelona Disputation of 1263 before King James I of Aragon, and subsequently emigrated to Eretz Yisrael, where he revitalized the Jewish community in Jerusalem. He authored the famed commentary on Chumash integrating peshat and Kabbalah, and the Milchamot Hashem defending the Rif.
