Rabbi Nachman of Breslov (1772-1810), great-grandson of the Baal Shem Tov, was born on 1 Nisan. He became the founder of the Breslov Chassidic movement and is renowned for his profound and imaginative Torah teachings, collected in Likutey Moharan, and his celebrated stories (Sipurei Ma'asiyot). His teachings emphasize joy, simplicity, hitbodedut (personal prayer), and faith even in times of despair. His followers, known as Breslov Chassidim, continue to follow his path without appointing a successor rebbe.
