Born in Frankfurt-am-Main (1908-1995), he learned at Mir and Telz before becoming Rav in Bavaria. Escaping Nazi Germany in 1936, he served as Rav in Baltimore and then in the Washington Heights community of New York, succeeding Rav Joseph Breuer.
