Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach

Born in the Shaarei Chesed neighborhood of Yerushalayim (1910-1995), he studied at Yeshivas Etz Chaim under Rav Isser Zalman Meltzer. His Meorei Eish on the laws of electricity on Shabbos was groundbreaking. In 1949, he became Rosh Yeshiva of Kol Torah in Bayit Vegan, Yerushalayim, a position he held for nearly 50 years. He authored Minchas Shlomo and his piskei halacha on Shabbos are found throughout Shmiras Shabbos Kehilchasa. His brother-in-law was Rav Shalom Schwadron. An estimated 300,000 people attended his levaya.
