About “Day” in Hebrew

The Jewish day begins at sunset rather than midnight, based on the creation narrative in Genesis: 'And there was evening, and there was morning—one day.' This is why Shabbat and all holidays begin at sunset. The word yom appears in many important Jewish terms: Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), Yom Tov (holiday/good day), and Yom Ha'atzmaut (Independence Day).
